What is Academic Advising? Academic advising is important and a way for you to obtain information about occupational programs, services, and resources to receive assistance in accessing the services and using the resources. Additionally, through advising you can receive help with decision making and problem solving. Counselors provide program advising, career exploration and planning, learning assistance, and personal counseling to help you attain your educational, career and life goals, and to promote self-development and personal awareness. You are encouraged to review the schools’ catalog to be aware of the TTCM policies and procedures, services and resources, and use the information to chart your academic plans. If you need assistance, contact your counselor. Advising Session You will meet an Advisor for the first time before you register for your first trimester at TTCM. All new students are required (and new transfer students are most welcome) to see an Advisor. Thereafter, every trimester, meet your departmental and academic Advisors often--at least once every trimester, to coordinate your academic progress. You will talk with the Advisor about your life goals and professional goals, choosing an occupational program, setting program registration, about the shortest route to your certificate or diploma. Clearly, this conversation is very important! In the period it takes to sit through about ONE lecture, you will be designing the plans for your entire future at TTCM! The decisions you make while meeting with your Advisor will impact your life! To make the most of the meeting with your Advisor:
- Prepare a list
of specific questions for your Advisor.
